At Virtek we are happy to introduce our newest product, especially developed to help you and your employees adhere to Covid-19 social distancing measures in the workplace – the SafeDistance wearable.
SafeDistance is a small, light and portable device that measures the distance to other SafeDistance sensors in real time to help ensure sufficient space between wearers. Using revolutionary ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to automatically measure the distance between people, the device alerts the wearer immediately if they come closer than the required distance.
This device, coupled with a GDPR-proof contact tracing platform enabling you to link employees to SafeDistance wearables, also alerts the wearer if they have been in contact with another wearer who has tested positive for Covid-19. This means that potential outbreaks in the workplace can be avoided if affected employees are notified and subsequently quarantined in time.
Benefits
The benefits of SafeDistance wearables are enormous, and their ease of use is second to none. SafeDistance doesn’t require the setup of any expensive infrastructure such as beacons or gateways – simply switch it on and you’re ready to go.
The wearables are also GDPR compliant by design, meaning that they can be rolled out immediately in your workplace without any concerns about privacy. At no point are any personal data or location details ever stored or tracked by SafeDistance devices. SafeDistance does not log any information whatsoever.
SafeDistance wearables can be safely used indoors or outdoors, in any environment. Optimised especially for high-volume deployments, these wearables never suffer from interference. No matter how many devices are active in the same area, they will not interfere with one another, ensuring that performance remains optimal.
Finally, SafeDistance are future-proof – we use over-the-air software updates to enable new features as they become available. Certain features currently in development include high-precision localisation, collision avoidance, safety zones, and access control.
Mobile App
SafeDistance wearables can be customised using a mobile app. Using the app, social distancing parameters and measurement rates can be easily adjusted and reconfigured if national guidelines on social distancing change.
Device settings which can be modified using the app include:

Alarm distance (default: 1.5 metres).

Alarm type: sound, vibration, LED light, or a combination of these (default: all three).
- Alarm latency: how fast should the wearables activate the alarm? You can add a latency to this, so the alarm doesn’t go off when passing each other in a hallway, for instance (default: 1 second).

Inter alarm delay: once the alarm activates, the inter alarm delay determines how frequent the alarm sounds. If set to 10 seconds, the alarm will activate every 10 seconds for as long as the wearables are too close (default: 1 second).

Whether or not the users can turn off the wearable using the button (default: no).

Whether ‘mouth mask mode’ is allowed: when this mode is active your employees can work close together if necessary. They should then wear a mouth mask, put the wearable on mouth mask mode and the alarm will not activate for 5 minutes (configurable) (default: no).

Turn on by movement: when taking the wearable out of the charger, it automatically switches on after detecting movement.

Device firmware update: when we release new firmware with new features, you can update your SafeDistance wearables using the configuration app.
